Me, you and us - Are we better human bing then those lived 10 millions BC?

We live in an era of human civilization where cut-throat competition is hallmark of survival. This beautiful planet earth had 1 billion humans in 1800; this population increased to 2.5 billion in 1950 and doubled to 5 billion in next 37 years, reaching to 6 billion mark in 1999 while currently the world population is around 6.5 billion. Inventions helped in creating knowledge and material wealth but could not help us gain wisdom; humans of today, despite sheer exploitation of natural resources by them through improved knowledge and technological inventions, have miserably failed in becoming 'humane'. They killed millions of them in two WWs and continue killing the weak all over the world through wars and other sophisticated means to ensure that only the 'fittest' must live a better life. In that quest, we have played havoc with ecology and environment of the earth taking it virtual on the brink of abyss. Surely, this scenario does not qualify us as more civilized and better than our ancestors of pre-historic era and demands on us to rethink about our purpose of life and for a sustainable, peaceful living during the span of every individual life that nature has predetermined. Even the strongest, wealthiest, and the most knowledgeable cannot live for ever and this fact proves that our life span is predetermined! Do we have to re-think whether human can control the nature or they have to make use of technological advancement friendly to nature for living a better life on earth?
